Juddmonte hoping for 2,000 Guineas gold at last for leading sire Kingman

A little over a decade on from Kingman's thwarted bid for Guineas glory the John and Thady Gosden-trained Field Of Gold is now primed to earn his sire redemption in the Rowley mile Classic following his breathtaking success in the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.
Juddmonte's sire of 13 individual Group 1 winners met with defeat just once in his eight-race career, when runner-up to Night Of Thunder in the 2,000 Guineas for John Gosden, but in his striking grey son Kingman looks to have the perfect candidate for victory.
Field Of Gold had already emulated his sire by winning the Group 3 Solario Stakes and taking a Guineas trial and his trainers and the colt's owners Juddmonte will be hoping the luck which eluded the Invincible Spirit stallion on that May afternoon will not desert his exciting son.
The colt won two of his four starts as a juvenile and, following his Group 3 breakthrough, finished fourth on unsuitably soft ground in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.
Unlike Juddmonte's other recent Classic trial winners Zanzoun, Jonquil and Swelter who is also by Kingman, Field Of Gold is not a homebred.

The new Guineas favourite was purchased for €530,000 as a foal by the Juddmonte team at the Goffs November Sale from his breeders Roundhill Stud, two months after his Oasis Dream close relation Zanbaq won the Listed Rosemary Stakes for Roger Varian and Shadwell.
Field Of Gold and Zanbaq are out of Princess De Lune, a winning Shamardal full-sister to Group 2 winners Queen Power and Puissance De Lune, who stands at Swettenham Stud in Australia.
Successful on debut as a three-year-old, Princess De Lune is a three-parts sister to Zabeel Prince, winner of the Prix d'Ispahan, and a half-sister to the dam of Rizeena, who triumphed in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Coronation Stakes for Clive Brittain.
Field Of Gold's third dam is Serena's Sister, a Rahy full-sister to champion and broodmare of the year Serena's Song. Camille Pissarro, who won the Prix Jean Luc Lagardere in which Field Of Gold was fourth, Golden Horde, Honor Code and Sophisticat.
Princess De Lune is the dam of three winners from three foals of racing age, has a yearling daughter by Ghaiyyath and was covered by Too Darn Hot last year.
