Jade set to shine brightly at Ffos Las for in-form Juddmonte family
Son of Dark Angel is out of a sister to the dams of Native Trail and Calyx
Dark Jade, who makes his debut for Harry and Roger Charlton at Ffos Las (6.20) on Tuesday, could not have a more current pedigree.
The two-year-old son of Dark Angel is a Juddmonte homebred out of Haydock Sprint Cup winner African Rose, an Observatory full-sister to the dam of Native Trail, last season's champion two-year-old who was so narrowly third in a pulsating finish to Saturday's Coral Eclipse.
It is a Juddmonte family replete with class and speed; Dark Jade is a half-brother to the star-crossed Fair Eva, by Frankel. She won the Princess Margaret Stakes at two and was placed in both the Lowther and Rockfel Stakes for Roger Charlton, who now trains her half-brother with his son Harry.
In addition to her Group 1 sprint triumph, African Rose was second in the Prix Maurice de Gheest. As a broodmare she has produced four winners from six runners so far with Fair Eva her sole black-type winner to date.
African Rose and Needleleaf, dam of the Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Native Trail, are also full-sisters to Helleborine, the Prix d'Aumale winner who was second in the Prix Marcel Boussac and is the dam of Coventry Stakes winner Calyx. The son of Kingman stands at Coolmore and his first crop will soon be seen at the yearling sales.
New Orchid, the second dam of Dark Jade, was runner-up in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes and is a Quest For Fame half-sister to Racing Post Trophy winner and sire Distant View.
Third dam Musicanti was a winning daughter of Nijinsky and a half-sister to Vanlandingham, a multiple Grade 1 winner on turf and dirt who won the 1985 Eclipse Award for Champion Older Male.
Sioux Nation, who is on the Coolmore stallion roster along with Dark Jade's relative Calyx, has made a quick start to his stud career and he is represented by the Archie Watson-trained newcomer Manitou in the race.
Bred by Pat Beirne, he was a 40,000gns purchase from the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up by Blandford Bloodstock and is out of a Dutch Art half-sister to Group 3 winner Skins Game and the Listed winner Epatha, from the family of Australian Group 1 winner Mourayan.
Secret Note, by Tally-Ho Stud's first season sire Kessaar, was purchased by Robyn Brisland from the same sale as Manitou, for 19,000gns. Sold by Hyde Park Stud, who produced 1,000 Guineas winner Cachet, he is out of Love Note, an Elusive Quality half-sister to New Zealand St Leger winner Leaderboard, by Street Cry.
Seamus Durack sourced Wadi Bani from the draft of Oak Tree Farm at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up for £65,000. The son of Oasis Dream had cost Norman Williamson and Mags O'Toole 45,000gns as a yearling.
He is out of Semaral, a High Chaparral half-sister to Listed Rose Bowl Stakes winner Natalie's Joy. Semaral and Natalie's Joy are granddaughters of European champion two-year-old filly Blue Duster, a full-sister to Middle Park Stakes winner and sire Zieten.
