Irish National Stud scholarship awarded to California's Blumenshine
Profile and strong work ethic impressed the board
The board of the Gerry Dilger Equine Scholarship Foundation has announced Gemma Blumenshine as the recipient of its annual scholarship to the Irish National Stud, in conjunction with Kentucky Equine Management Internship (Kemi).
Each year the charity awards a number of scholarships dedicated to the memory of Gerry Dilger. Blumenshine’s profile and strong work ethic impressed the board as the candidate who is most deserving, and suits what will be a unique experience and opportunity to be a part of the famed Irish National Stud programme in 2022.
Blumenshine grew up in Clovis, California, majored in Animal Science and minored in Dairy Industries at California Polytechnic State University.
She started riding and competing in hunters and equitation from the age of 11 and has already gained much experience in training, schooling and lessons. In addition, she has enjoyed training off-track thoroughbreds to jump.
Her recent work experience through Kemi at Castleton Lyons in Lexington it said to have made her a well-rounded candidate.
She said: “I'm so lucky to be a part of Kemi and to be recognised with the Gerry Dilger Irish National Stud Scholarship, and am so grateful to his family.”
Claire Dilger said: “We are so proud of Gemma and excited to see all she will accomplish. Thank you to all our donors, and those who help keep my dad’s memory alive.”
