Whitecliffsofdover and Magneticjim given stud roles in France

Haras de la Haie Neuve in Brittany will next year welcome to its roster the first son of War Front to stand in France and a well-bred son of Galileo who has won under both codes, as Alain Regnier hands over the reins of the stud to Tangui and Dorothee Saliou.

The new additions, who will join the high-achieving first-season sire Pedro The Great on the roster, are Whitecliffsofdover and Magneticjim.

Whitecliffsofdover, a $1.15 million Keeneland September yearling purchase, was trained by Aidan O'Brien to win a Naas maiden and to finish second in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes and third in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at two.

He was the impressive winner of the Listed European Free Handicap on his three-year-old debut this year and his best subsequent efforts were a third in the Listed Owenstown Stud Stakes and a close fifth to Suedois in the Group 2 Boomerang Stakes.

Whitecliffsofdover was bred by Claiborne Farm out of a winning sister to influential sire Pulpit.

“As was the case with Pedro The Great, Coolmore will keep a ten per cent share in the horse,” Regnier and Saliou told Jour de Galop. “War Front is asserting himself as a sire of sires, as we have seen with The Factor, who has just been acquired by the Japanese, or Declaration Of War, the sire of Olmedo.”

Whitecliffsofdover will command a fee of €3,000.

His future studmate Magneticjim, meanwhile, is a Galileo three-parts brother to Group 1 winners Corre Caminos and Recital bought as a yearling at Arqana for €500,000.

Magneticjim was trained by Pascal Bary to win races over a mile at Saint-Cloud before being switched this year to Alain Couetil, for whom he won over hurdles at Auteuil.

The close relation to Grade 1-winning hurdler Me Voici will be marketed towards jumps breeders and will stand at a fee of €1,800, with Couetil to support him with 20 of his own and clients' mares.

Pedro The Great, the son of Henrythenavigator who has stood his entire career at Haras de la Haie Neuve, has made a fine impression with his first two-year-old runners this season.

From only 35 foals he has sired nine winners, three of those black-type performers including Listed winner Feralia and the stakes-placed Bonita Frasisca and Fatale Bere.

His fee for 2018 is being doubled to €6,000 from €3,000.
