Too Darn Hot nomination realises A$255,000 at Inglis Digital August Sale

A nomination in burgeoning shuttle stallion Too Darn Hot topped the Inglis Digital August (Late) Sale on Wednesday when selling for A$255,000 (£190,000/€220,000).

The sale of the Too Darn Hot nomination was a collaboration between Godolphin, Watership Down Stud and CatWalk, with all proceeds going directly toward funding critical research to help those living with spinal cord injuries.

The nomination was purchased by keen breeder Taisen Maddern and he has earmarked his Street Boss mare Sliders to be the beneficiary of the purchase.

“I actually had Sliders booked into Too Darn Hot last year but when he didn’t come out we obviously missed out and it’s been hard to get into him so I thought I’d just buy the nom when I saw it come online with Inglis Digital,’’ Maddern said.

“In the end it was really easy, your new website is great, very easy to navigate. Hopefully this foal can be the next Broadsiding, that’s the plan or the dream.’’

Too Darn Hot - who is returning to Darley’s Kelvinside base this year at a fee of A$275,000 (inc GST) - has sired ten stakes winners in Australia from 105 starters to date, headed by multiple Group 1 scorer Broadsiding and Group 2 winners Shanwah, Too Darn Discreet, Rivellino, and Too Darn Lizzie.

“It’s a wonderful result for Catwalk. The thoroughbred industry gets behind good causes and this is extremely important,’’ Godolphin CEO Andy Makiv said.

“Too Darn Hot has quickly stamped himself as an elite young sire and the level of support for this nomination shows the confidence breeders have in him and in the initiative. 

"We’re delighted that Taisen Maddern secured the nomination. He has been a great supporter and friend of Darley for many years and it came as no surprise that he bid more than anyone else."
