The National Stud posts operational profit for ninth consecutive year
Newmarket-based organisation generated £2.5 million in revenue

The National Stud, the Jockey Club’s thoroughbred breeding and educational arm, has posted operating profit for the ninth consecutive year, according to a report released by the Jockey Club.
The stud generated £2,500,000 in revenue across a range of services, including standing the stallions Gregorian, Marcel and Toronado in partnership with a range of clients, boarding, foaling and spelling.
In total £300,000 of 2016’s annual turnover returned as profit, a slight decrease on the £500,000 profit generated in 2015.
The National Stud sold five yearlings during Tattersalls’ October Yearling Sale, with its most expensive offering coming during Book 3, with Charlie Gordon-Watson parting with 60,000gns for the Havana Gold colt out of Inner Sea.
The stud’s commercial success in 2016 comes in spite of a period of closure earlier in the year due the presence of neurological herpes in a maiden mare at the operation’s isolation unit.
