Sydney to Windsor for progeny of Concordia
Invincible Spirit filly Clearly makes her first start on Monday
Siblings to top-flight winners on the Flat and over jumps are among the 16 declared runners for the 1m2f three- and four-year-old maiden at Windsor on Monday evening (8.15).
Trained by John Gosden, Clearly is a three-year-old Invincible Spirit half-sister to Polarisation, winner of the Group 1 Sydney Cup Handicap in April - which was rerun a fortnight after it been declared void due to stricken horses and riders on the course.
Polarisation begun his racing career with Mark Johnston, for whom he was a five-time winner, including in the valuable Melrose Stakes Handicap at York, before he finished second of four on his only start over hurdles for John Ferguson.
Switched to the care of Charlie Appleby last year, he was second in a handicap at last year's Derby meeting, before his two Australian runs this year.
A Darley homebred, Clearly is out of winning Pivotal mare Concordia. meaning Clearly is bred on the same cross as 2012 July Cup hero Mayson, while Concordia is a half-sister to Lammtarra, who swept the Derby, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Arc in 1995.
Concordia also has an unraced two-year-old Dubawi filly named Mountain Lake, and has a Golden Horn colt foal at foot.
In opposition is Fujaira Prince, a half-brother to Nichols Canyon, a dual Listed winner on the Flat for John Gosden that went on to earn his plaudits as a top-class hurdler for Willie Mullins. He has now won a remarkable eight Grade 1s over hurdles, including the Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year.
Fujaira Prince, a three-year-old Pivotal gelding, was picked up by trainer Roger Varian for 90,000gns from Highclere Stud at Book 1 of the 2015 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Fujaira Prince is out of Zam Zoom, an unraced half-sister to the Group 3 winner Nideeb, and the Group 2-placed and Chester Cup winner Suegioo, from the further family of blue hen mare Lucayan Princess.
Zam Zoom also counts the Listed-placed Bright Approach among her brood, as well as a New Approach yearling filly and a Exceed And Excel filly foal.
Sky Eagle also catches the eye, as the unraced Lope De Vega colt is a half-brother to German Group 3 winner Papagena Star. The colt was knocked down for 160,000gns to SackvilleDonald at the same sale as Fujaira Prince.
With the race already priced up, it is the Sepoy gelding Stormy Blues - a half-brother to Gold Cup hero Big Orange - who heads the betting having finished second in a Nottingham maiden on his most recent start.
