Sunrise Stallions update Big Brown's 2017 stud fee

Sunrise Stallions has announced its stud fees for 2017, headed by Big Brown, whose successes at three included winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Big Brown, a son of Boundary, was sold for $190,000 as a two-year-old and won a maiden at Saratoga that year.

Big Brown's first win at the top-level came in the Florida Derby for trainer Richard Dutrow. He won the first two legs of the American Triple Crown, before finishing last of nine in the Belmont Stakes.

He did, however, make amends afterwards by winning the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.

Big Brown's best progeny to date includes Dortmund, who won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby and placed three times behind California Chrome, and Darwin, who won the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh and finished a close third behind Kingman in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

Big Brown's initial fee at Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky was set at $65,000. He will stand next year in New York at a fee of $7,500.

Sunrise also offers two brothers by Giant's Causeway, with Frost Giant to stand for $5,000 and Heavy Breathing to stand for $2,500.

Sunrise Stallions business manager Eric Bishop said: "Both Big Brown and Frost Giant have proved they can sire top runners who can earn New York breeders substantial returns on their investment through New York's nationally leading breeding incentive programme.

"We want to encourage breeders to take part in New York's extremely attractive programme by offering our stallions at exceptionally competitive fees."
