Solow sister Lunch Lady looks one to follow after impressive debut
Daughter of Shamardal a wide-margin winner of Chantilly mile contest
Lunch Lady, a Shamardal half-sister to champion miler Solow, looks one to follow this season based on her four-and-a-half-length victory in the Prix du Soissonnais, a contest for unraced three-year-old fillies over a mile at Chantilly on Thursday.
The filly represents the same connections as Solow, who dominated the miling division in 2015 when he won the Prix d'Ispahan, Queen Anne Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, as she is trained by Freddy Head for owner-breeders the Wertheimer brothers.
She is by Kildangan Stud kingpin Shamardal, sire of 18 Group/Grade 1 winners, and her dam is the Group 3-placed Highest Honor mare High Maintenance, who in turn is out of Group 2 Prix de Royallieu winner Fabulous Hostess.
The distant runner-up to Lunch Lady was Ghabnah, a daughter of Equiano trained by Francois Rohaut for Al Shaqab Racing.
The mile maiden for three-year-old males run earlier on the card was won by Rashke, trained by Andre Fabre for Godolphin, by three and a half lengths.
He is from the second of two crops conceived by Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice when he shuttled to Haras de Bonneval and is out of Ribblesdale Stakes winner Silkwood.
Silkwood has not flourished as a broodmare with Next Life and Silken Dancer the best of her five runners both with Racing Post Ratings of 83.
In fact, Godolphin dispensed with Silkwood's services by selling her for just €35,000 to Loughtown Stud at Goffs in November, so this latest upturn in the mare's fortunes brought about by Rashke is a huge boon for her new owners.
