Solemia's first surviving foal heads a galaxy of star pedigrees at Chantilly

Pedigree buffs should keep an eye on Saturday's action in France

The Wertheimer brothers scooped a big pot at Lingfield on Good Friday when their homebred five-year-old Funny Kid lunged late to take the Betway All-Weather Marathon Championships, and an excellent Easter weekend could continue for the illustrious owners on Saturday as the first surviving foal out of their 2012 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Solemia is set to debut at Chantilly.

Solesili is a three-year-old colt by Dansili out of Solemia, who broke Japanese hearts when she stuck on well to narrowly deny Orfevre, who had looked for all the world a first winner of the Arc for Japan with a burst of speed that took him clear in the final furlong of the Longchamp showpiece.

Solemia – a daughter of the recently deceased French champion sire Poliglote – was a surprise winner of the Arc, returning an SP of 33-1 with British bookmakers, although earlier that season she had defeated Shareta to win the Prix Corrida and finished third behind that rival in her prep race, the Prix Vermeille.

Solemia was retired to paddocks in 2013 after an unsuccessful assault on the Japan Cup, and her first date was with Dubawi, but the resultant foal did not survive.

Solesili, the result of the mare's second mating, is with Solemia's trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias and is set to be partnered by Maxime Guyon for his first outing in the Prix de Joinville, a 1m2f contest for unraced colts and geldings (2pm local time, 1pm time BST).

He will be bidding to uphold the honour of his fine family, as Solemia is a three-parts sister to Group 1 runners-up Prospect Park and Prospect Wells and to the granddams of multiple top-level winners Silasol and The Gurkha.

Under Solemia's third dam also appear the champions Alhaarth, Authorized, Green Dancer, Makfi, Okawango and Quijano.

Besides Solesili, Solemia has a two-year-old filly by Dansili called Arcmania, a yearling filly by Sea The Stars named Seamia and was covered by Dubawi again last year.

Solesili faces another well-bred Wertheimer-bred and owned colt in the race, in Folamour, an Intello half-brother to Group 3-placed Empreinte out of Zagzig, a Selkirk half-sister to Group/Grade 1 performers Salto and Silent Name. He is trained by Andre Fabre and has the assistance of Pierre-Charles Boudot in the saddle.

More French fancies

The Wertheimers are also double handed in the equivalent race for debutante fillies, the Prix du Pavillon de Manse at Chantilly (2.35/1.35).

The pair are Extra Credit, a Freddy Head-trained daughter of Intello and Listed winner Mary's Precedent bought as a yearling for €300,000, and Polar Sea, a daughter of Pivotal and Prix de l'Opera third Legerete and thus a sister to Listed scorer Pilote. She is trained by Laffon-Parias.

Neither are the pick of the race purely on pedigree, though. That honour must go to Broderie Anglaise, trained by Fabre for Coolmore. She is a sibling to seven black-type performers including the high-class Hearthstead Maison, Rave Reviews, Sail and 1,000 Guineas third Moth.

In a field full of fancily-bred fillies, also worthy of respect are two daughters of Sea The Stars: All Stars, trained by Henri-Francois Devin for Ballymore Thoroughreds and out of Deep Impact's Group 3 winner Aquamarine; and Douda, out of Group 2 winner Diamond Tango and thus a half-sister to high-class stayer Desert Skyline.
