Siblings to Group winners galore in BBAG catalogue
Cream of German breeding on offer at Baden-Baden in September
A half-brother to this month's German Derby hero Windstoss features among 269 lots in the catalogue for the BBAG Yearling Sale in Baden-Baden, Germany, on September 1.
The colt, already named Walerian, is by Reliable Man and is set to be offered by Gestut Rottgen, the owner-breeders of Windstoss.
Windstoss and his yearling half-brother are out of the winning Sternkonig mare Wellenspiel, a daughter of German champion two-year-old Well Known and half-sister to Group 1 scorer Well Made.
Jamie Railton consigns to the sale a Sea The Moon half-brother to Enjoy Vijay, who finished second to Windstoss in the German Derby.
In total, 32 siblings to Group winners will be available at Baden-Baden, including seven who share dams with top-level laureates.
Highlights include a Tertullian half-brother to reigning Melbourne Cup hero Almandin, to be offered by Ronald Rauscher on behalf of Gestut Schlenderhan, and a Dabirsim half-sister to Group 1 winners Baila Me and Be Fabulous from Gestut Karlshof.
The latter is one of 11 lots at the sale by leading first-season sire Dabirsim, who supplied Royal Ascot winner Different League.
Also of international interest is the Mastercraftsman half-sister to popular Hong Kong performer Pakistan Star to be offered by Gestut Wittekindshof.
The catalogue includes 17 yearlings from the first crop of Sea The Moon, one of the best German-trained horses of recent years who careered to victory in the country's Derby.
Other names of note in the index of sires include Acclamation, Animal Kingdom, Australia, Cape Cross, Exceed And Excel, Iffraaj, Kodiac, Le Havre, Lope De Vega, New Approach, Oasis Dream, Sea The Stars, Siyouni and Zoffany.
A statement from the sale company said: “BBAG purchases have continued to make a big noise this year. In addition to several Group winners, we were responsible for the first four home in the German Derby with Windstoss, Enjoy Vijay, Rosenpurpur and Shanjo.
“Of the 18 German Derby runners this year, 12 were sold or offered in the ring at BBAG.”
