Final thought

Gordon Lord Byron, winner of the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh, was the oldest Group 2 winner in Europe last year as a nine-year-old. Air Pilot matched that by winning the Prix d’Harcourt at Longchamp on Sunday.

For the record, the oldest Group 1 winner in Europe last year was Sussex Stakes scorer Here Comes When, while the oldest Group 3 winner in Europe last year was Take Cover, who won the World Trophy at Newbury in September.
