On The Fringe bidding for third consecutive win in the Foxhunters'

Pat Tobin bred the hat-trick seeking 12-year-old

Do you think On The Fringe can complete a hat-trick in the Foxhunters’ Chase? His run at Leopardstown against Foxrock was very promising. It was impressive for his first run of the year having struggled a bit in the same race in 2016.

Have you bred any previous Cheltenham Festival runners? I bred Wichita Lineman, who won twice at the Festival. He won the Grade 2 Spa Novices’ Hurdle and two years later won the William Hill Chase under AP McCoy. We also bred Coney Island, who was due to run this year but has been sidelined through injury.

What made you breed Love And Porter to Exit To Nowhere back in 2004? He had some promising young horses in England at the time, Paul Nicholls had a couple of them. The mare was barren and he was something different to use. He was standing at Alfie Buller’s Scarvagh House Stud in Northern Ireland, and I happened to be good friends with the vet, Conor Cashman, who was working up there at the time.

What is your earliest memory of On The Fringe? He was a cracking foal. Very correct, an exceptional walker and a very good looker as well. John O’Byrne bought him for €47,000. It would be nice to think we can breed a few more like him in future.
