New Zealand-based Tivaci grounded from National Stud shuttle

New Zealand-based freshman sire Tivaci has been ruled out of a shuttle stint to the National Stud in Newmarket by his southern hemisphere home Waikato Stud.

The Group 1-winning son of High Chaparral has served a book of over 140 mares in his first season on southern hemisphere covering duty, including top-level winners Daffodil, Costume and I Do as well as the dams of Group 1 winners Ambitious Dragon, Kawi, Shamexpress, Brambles, Thee Auld Floozie and Consensus

"After such a successful season that has just gone so quickly, we have decided not to take up the offer of a northern hemisphere season at the English National Stud," Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick said.

"This decision was not taken lightly. As you know, this option was not in our original planning, but developed after the initial approach from the English National Stud.

"However, he would have been one of four first-season sires within their operation so we felt his opportunities may become limited and we were not prepared to risk Tivaci on this venture. Rather, we feel the off-season at Waikato Stud will give us more chance to promote such an impressive horse to our constant stream of visitors."

Bred by legendary trainer Bart Cummings out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Breccia, a half-sister to Group 1 Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder and Group 3 scorer Pretty Pins, Tivaci fetched $250,000 when offered at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

He was saddled by Mike Moroney to win the All Aged Stakes at Randwick and also placed in two other Group 1s, the Toorak Handicap and Cantala Stakes.

"He is incredible to work with, inside and outside of the breeding barn and he has learned and worked in a very professional manner," added Chittick.

"We are especially proud of the book he has served. His fertility is fantastic and he has served 140 mares already. We are delighted with the quality of mares he has covered."
