Mrs Danvers dam to be covered by Iffraaj

Rebecca De Winter, the dam of this year's Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes scorer Mrs Danvers, will be covered by Iffraaj in 2017.

The 11-year-old Kyllachy mare won once for Richard Hannon snr and has had two runners from three foals.

Frosty De Winter was fatally injured in a race at Kempton, but his sister Mrs Danvers went on a five-race unbeaten run last year culminating in success in the Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket.

Connie Burton, who bred Mrs Danvers with her husband Mark, said: "Rebecca De Winter is going to Iffraaj. He has good conformation and we think he will be suited to her. We think it will be a nice cross.

"The mare is very much a similar stamp to Iffraaj. We would be hoping for something nice and stocky - a really good, strong, early two-year-old type hopefully.

"Hellvelyn also throws a lovely foal, and it is likely we will go back to him in the future. Mrs Danvers has already shown that the cross works."

The plan is for the Iffraaj foal to be sold but the Burtons do have a yearling half-sister still on their hands.

"We've still got last year's foal from Rebecca De Winter, by Swiss Spirit, and she will be broken at the end of the year and go into training next spring."

Rebecca De Winter is the only mare the Burtons own, but they will also have Mrs Danvers to breed off once her racing career ends.

Iffraaj, who is the source of Ribchester, Wootton Bassett and Hot Streak, is standing the 2017 breeding season at a career-high fee of £27,500 at Dalham Hall Stud.
