The regally bred Clemmie followed in the footsteps of her dam, Meow, as the sister of dual 2,000 Guineas winner Churchill landed the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes over 6f at the Curragh on Sunday.

Clemmie could be spotted going noticeably well as the race developed in earnest, and having taken up the running with a furlong to go she powered clear of Butterscotch by two and three quarter lengths as daughters of Galileo filled the first two places.

Clemmie, trained by Aidan O'Brien, was making it third time lucky having previously been beaten in a maiden over course and distance and in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

She is, of course, by Coolmore's linchpin sire Galileo, with her success on Sunday taking his career total to a whopping 410 stakes performers.

She is the third foal produced by the Storm Cat mare Meow, a daughter of lightning-fast two-year-old Airwave who defeated Russian Rhythm when landing the 2002 Cheveley Park Stakes for trainer Henry Candy.

Meow raced only at two, but showed plenty of talent in her five racecourse starts, namely when winning the 2010 renewal of the Grangegon Stud Stakes, then a Listed contest, before being beaten just a neck into second behind Maqaasid in the 2010 Queen Mary Stakes.

She is a half-sister to the Group 3-winning daughter of Galileo Aloof and the Listed winner Orator, while Airwave is a half-sister to the ill-fated Nunthorpe Stakes winner Jwala.

Meow has also produced a brother to Churchill and Clemmie having delivered a colt by Galileo in 2016.
