Leading freshman sire Violence upped to $25,000 for 2018

Leading US-based freshman sire Violence has been the subject of a hike in covering fee for the 2018 breeding season, with the son of Medaglia D'Oro due to stand at Hill 'n' Dale Farms at $25,000. The Grade 1-winning two-year-old stood the latest covering season at $15,000.

Violence currently sits in second on the US first-crop sires' table by prize-money, with his progeny earnings of $749,646 bettered only by Overanalyze.

He has supplied 12 winners, including three horses to have struck at stakes level, namely Barry Lee, Encumbered and Buy Sell Hold. That record makes him joint-leading freshman sire by black-type winners, a position he shares with Animal Kingdom.

He has had just the two runners in Britain, with the Jeremy Noseda-trained Quivery having won two of her starts as well as running to a smart level when a close-up fourth in a Goodwood Group 3.

Meanwhile, the Kevin Ryan-trained Jungle Room has shaped with promise on both outings having cost 210,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.

Those on-course results have translated into high demand for his progeny at this year's yearling sales, with 40 of his sons and daughters changing hands at last month's Keeneland September Sale for an average of $166,025, headed by the colt bought by Kerri Radcliffe and Three Chimneys Farm for $850,000.

"Violence was a breakaway sire at Keeneland this year with yearlings selling for $850,000, $725,000, $475,000, $425,000. These are big numbers for a horse that stood for $15,000," said Hill 'n' Dale owner John Sikura. "We have always believed in providing breeders with exceptional value. The increase to $25,000 is in alignment with that philosophy. We feel Violence is on a trajectory to become a leading sire."
