Fleche D’Or, the dam of Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn, produced a Galileo half-brother to the four-time Group 1 winner on Tuesday night at Norelands Stud in County Kilkenny.

Harry McCalmont, who owns the mare in partnership, said: “He’s a very nice individual, and everything is going well with him so far. She was empty one year, and she lost her foal last year, which was disappointing, so it is nice to have her back in the groove again, producing foals.

“She’s proved herself to be a very good mare, and he's probably the best stallion in the world so it was an obvious mating.”

Fleche D’Or, an 11-year-old daughter of Dubai Destination, is an unraced half-sister to Coronation Stakes scorer Rebecca Sharp, out of the Listed winner Nuryana.

She has also produced a black-type performer in the Listed Ballymacoll Stakes winner Eastern Belle and Golden Reign, a four-year-old mare by Champs Elysees who was placed in Britain before being exported to France, where she has also placed once.

Cercle D’Or, owned by McCalmont and partners, won her maiden at Lingfield in December. The three-year-old daughter of Acclamation is still in training with Graham Motion at his Fair Hill Stables in Maryland. As a May foal, she will not be covered this year.

McCalmont added: “The foal’s healthy and well, and we are excited by him.”
