Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah, the owner who enjoyed Group success with Nathra and Ardad last year and Dabyah and Daban during the current Flat season, has an exciting runner to look forward to at Newmarket on Friday with the John Gosden-trained debutante Gumriyah.

The daughter of Shamardal is a half-sister to 1,000 Guineas heroine Legatissimo and will line up against seven other newcomers in the 13-runner 7f fillies' maiden (4.45).

Harry Bentley will ride Gumriyah, who at 870,000gns was the fourth most expensive filly sold at last year's Tattersalls Book 1 when signed for by Blandford Bloodstock.

In what was a stunning three-year-old campaign, Legatissimo also added her name to the roll of honour of the Nassau Stakes and Matron Stakes and found only one too good in the Oaks, Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland.

Bred by Newsells Park Stud, Gumriyah is out of the winning Montjeu mare Yummy Mummy, a sister of the five-time Group 1 winner and ill-fated jumps sire Fame And Glory. Gumriyah also shares her third dam with first-season sire Farhh.

The mare has also produced Smoulder, a winning three-year-old filly by Redoute's Choice, and has a Dubawi colt foal at foot.

In opposition

Gumriyah faces no easy task on debut, however, as Darley will be hoping lightning can strike twice with Thunder Snow's half-sister named Winter Lightning, another Shamardal filly set for her first appearance.

Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, she is set to be ridden by Oisin Murphy.

Dual Group 1 winner Thunder Snow is one of four stakes winners out of the winning Dubai Destination mare Eastern Joy, including May Hill Stakes scorer Ihtimal and Oh So Sharp Stakes winner First Victory.

Eastern Joy is a half-sister to the 2007 Prix de Diane winner West Wind out of Sun Chariot Stakes scorer Red Slippers. Like Yummy Mummy, she has no yearling but has a Dubawi colt foal at foot.

Of those with experience, Final Treat's staying-on fourth in a 6f Newbury maiden last month suggests the daughter of Acclamation has inherited at least some of the ability that saw her half-sister, Finsceal Beo, land three Group 1s.
