Goresbridge sale-topper cuts his teeth in Leopardstown opener
Landshark was a ready winner of the 6f juvenile maiden
Landshark - who attracted a winning bid of €210,000 at this year's Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale having been picked up for 5,000gns by Mark Flannery as a yearling - got his career off to the best possible start by winning the opening 6f maiden at Leopardstown on Thursday.
Trained by Jessica Harrington and ridden by Colm O'Donoghue, the Bated Breath colt was half a length clear of Teofilo filly Sappho, with the Sir Prancealot gelding Sneem a further three quarters of a length back in third.
Bred by Fonthill Farms and J Dean and owned by E5 Thoroughbreds, Landshark is the third winner from four runners out of the winning Trempelino mare Tremelo Pointe, a half-sister to the Listed winner and Group 1-placed Dream Eater and talented middle-distance performers Dreamspeed and Gulf Of Naples.
Roussel flew the flag for the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale when making a winning debut at Leicester in May, while Pouvoir Magique, who commanded a price-tag of 360,000gns at the 2016 renewal of the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale, won on his second start at Ayr last month.
Meanwhile the Kodiac colt Ragstone Road - who topped this year's Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale when sold by Knockanglass Stables for 240,000gns to Stephen Hillen - could kickstart his racing career on Wednesday with the colt entered for a 6f novice stakes at Salisbury.
