Dylan Thomas - sire of 2015 Coronation Cup hero Pether's Moon - may have been switched by Coolmore to covering National Hunt mares in 2014, but he supplied a Listed winner on the Flat yesterday when the six-year-old gelding Spark Plug grabbed a first stakes success in the 1m2f Ambant Gala Stakes at Sandown.

Trained by Brian Meehan and ridden by Ryan Moore, Spark Plug has already finished second twice in Listed company - including in the same race last year.

Bred by Airlie Stud who sold him as a foal for €34,000, Spark Plug is a half-brother to Pearl Of Africa and Slight Advantage, both Listed winners, out of the classy Sportsworld mare Kournikova, winner of the Group 1 Triple Tiara in South Africa.

Dylan Thomas stands at Castlehyde Stud at a fee of €5,000.

The race was one of two Listed contests at Sandown on Friday, with the Havana Gold colt Havana Grey landing his second stakes wins in the 5f Allied World Dragon Stakes earlier in the day.

Trained by Karl Burke and ridden by PJ McDonald, the smart two-year-old led home the Kodiac pair of Roussel and To Wafij.

Bred by Mickley Stud and Lady Lonsdale, Havana Grey is the first foal out of the winning Dark Angel mare Blanc De Chine, who also has a yearling brother to Havana Grey and a Fast Company foal.

Havana Grey, who provided his sire with both his first winner and first stakes winner, was picked up as a yearling for €70,000 by BBA Ireland from the Coulonces Consignment at last year's Arqana August Sale.
