First foal of dual Group 1 winner La Collina due for Donny debut
Piccolo Collina was a 625,000gns foal purchase
Back in December 2015 John Ferguson visited the Tattersalls December Foal Sale and duly parted with 4,549,000gns for 24 choice offerings on behalf of Godolphin.
The second-most expensive of those, a Dubawi filly out of dual Group 1 winner La Collina, is now poised to make her debut with Charlie Appleby electing to start Piccola Collina off in the 7f fillies' maiden at Doncaster at 6.10pm on Thursday.
The filly is the first foal produced by La Collina, a daughter of Strategic Prince who landed the 2011 Phoenix Stakes and 2013 Matron Stakes for Kevin Prendergast, who had picked his charge up for just £42,000 from the Manister House Stud draft at the 2010 DBS Premier Yearling Sale.
La Collina is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Fastnet Rock mare Entsar, while her own dam, Starfish - a daughter of Galileo - is closely related to the 2010 Chester Vase runner-up Icon Dream, though beyond those names there is a notable absence of black type on her page.
Since delivering the Kenilworth House Stud-bred Piccola Collina, La Collina has also produced a colt by Shamardal who was purchased by Ferguson for 375,000gns at last year's Tattersalls foal sale.
