First foal in five years for dam of three Royal Ascot winners

There was a welcome arrival at Norelands Stud in County Kilkenny last month with top-class producer Frappe delivering her first surviving foal - a filly by Australia - in five years.

"Frappe's a wonderful mare, we're very lucky to have her," said Harry McCalmont of Norelands. "Her milk was a little bit weak so we've used a foster mare with the foal, and she's taken to her new mother very well."

Frappe, a daughter of Ichinor, managed the notable breeding feat of producing no less than three Royal Ascot winners: Thakafaat, winner of Ribblesdale Stakes in 2005 when the meeting was held at York; Power, who landed the Coventry Stakes before going on to win the National Stakes and Irish 2,000 Guineas; and Curvy, a daughter of Galileo who emulated her older half-sister by winning the Ribblesdale in 2015.

Frappe also served up Applauded, the dam of three black-type performers including Alphabet, who was second to Caravaggio in last year's Flying Five Stakes.

Visorama delivers Dariyan half-brother to Vazirabad

Vazirabad, a supreme stayer who won the Prix Royal-Oak twice and the Dubai Gold Cup three times, has a new half-brother after the Group 3-winning Linamix mare Visorama delivered a Dariyan colt.

The foal is the ninth produce of the mare, who has supplied an impressive seven winners from as many runners - all by different sires - including last month's Meydan hero Vazirabad and the Listed-winning miler Visoriyna.

Visorama will visit another new stallion this year - Haras de Bonneval's new recruit Zarak.

Two new Group winners for So You Think

So You Think, winner of five Group 1 contests in both hemispheres, supplied two new Pattern winners in Australia on Saturday bringing his total of Group winners at stud to eight.

Higher Ground started proceedings when winning the Group 3 Frank Packer over 1m2f at Randwick, defeating the Snitzel colt Tangled by a nose.

Sopressa completed the double after landing the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes for three-year-old fillies over 1m1f at Morphettville by a comfortable four and a half length margin.

So You Think has proved popular in his first six seasons in the southern hemisphere - his fee never dipping below A$49,500 (£27,100/€30,900), and he supplied his third elite winner last month when his son D'Argento won the Rosehill Guineas.

The Coral-Eclipse winner also stood for four seasons at Coolmore Stud in Ireland, from where he has sent out the Listed winner Marathon Man and the Group 3-placed Neguev.
