Delve into the pedigrees of the winners from Saturday's big meeting

Despite being last to leave the gates in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan on Saturday, Arrogate always looked to have a bit in hand as he added to his catalogue of successes.

Mike Smith nudged Arrogate into contention rounding the home turn and took up the lead entering the closing stages to see off Gun Runner, a son of Candy Ride, and Neolithic, a son of Harlan's Holiday.

Bred by Clearsky Farms, the four-year-old son of Unbridled's Song is out of the Grade 3-placed Distorted Humor mare Bubbler, whose second dam is the champion two-year-old filly Meadow Star.

Arrogate was sold by Clearsky Farms as a yearling for $560,000 at the Keeneland September Sale in 2014.

Unbridled's Song stood for 13 seasons at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky before his death in 2013. Of his 22 top-flight winners to date, Arrogate is by far his greatest earner, following previous successes in the Pegasus World Cup, Breeders' Cup Classic and Travers Stakes.

Hobbs hits rivals for six in Sheema

Jack Hobbs bounced right back to his best as the five-year-old son of Halling knocked his rivals for six in the Dubai Sheema Classic, trouncing runner-up Seventh Heaven by two and a quarter lengths.

Jack Hobbs has now won five of his ten starts in a somewhat truncated career. He won his first two starts before twice tasting defeat at the hands of Golden Horn in the 2015 Dante Stakes and Derby. He resumed winning ways and landed a first Group 1 when running out a five-length winner of that year’s Irish Derby.

Bred by Willie Carson’s Minster Stud, Jack Hobbs is out of the 16-year-old winning Swain mare Swain’s Gold, and is a half-brother to the Group 3-placed Niceofyoutotellme. The likes of May Hill Stakes winner Pollenator and Firth of Clyde Stakes runner-up Rosebride also appear underneath the third dam, Golden Bloom.

Swain’s Gold also has a number of unraced progeny in the pipeline, as in 2014 she produced a colt by Mayson and in 2015 she had a filly by Sepoy. In 2017 she is due to visit Jack Hobbs’ Epsom conqueror Golden Horn.

Jack Hobbs was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 60,000gns from Book 2 of the 2013 edition of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, and debuted for John Gosden in the colours of his wife, Rachel Hood, before it was announced in May 2015 that Godolphin had bought into him in a private deal.

Halling, who died in February 2016 at the age of 25, sired a quartet of top-flight winners, including popular stayer Cavalryman and Prix Ganay winner Cutlass Bay.

No mistakes for The Right Man

The Right Man became the third top-flight winner for his sire Lope De Vega after prevailing in a photo finish in the Al Quoz Sprint from the entire Long On Value, by Value Plus, in second, with Ertijaal, an Oasis Dream gelding, in third.

Despite having won a top-flight sprint, The Right Man boasts a pedigree not short on middle-distance influence. Not only is he by a dual French Classic winner, he is out of the winning Warning mare Three Owls and a half-brother to the useful stayer Steve Rogers and the black-type performers Three Moons - herself the dam of Listed scorer Tashaar - and Black Velvet.

The five-year-old gelding is one of six winners from 11 runners out of Three Owls, and was sold by Haras de Meautry for €32,000 as a yearling at the Arqana October Sale in 2013.

The Right Man was following in the footsteps of Belardo, winner of the Dewhurst Stakes at two and the Lockinge Stakes at four, and Jemayel who scored in the Prix Saint-Alary at Deauville last year, as top-level winners to be supplied by Ballylinch Stud resident Lope De Vega. The son of Shamardal is standing the 2017 breeding season at a career-high fee of €50,000.

Deep Impact adds a second Dubai Turf

Vivlos emulated another of Deep Impact's offspring in Real Steel to land the Dubai Turf, from Heshem, by Footstepsinthesand, and Ribchester, by Iffraaj.

Bred by Northern Racing, the four-year-old filly is a sister to Verxina, a dual winner of the valuable Victoria Mile at Tokyo and half-sister to the entire Cheval Guard, who was third to Kitasan Black in both the Japan Cup and Spring Tenno Sho.

Out of the Machiavellian mare Halwa Sweet, the family has previously worked well with Deep Impact as the dam is a half-sister to the classy Frere Jacques and French sire Martinborough, who are both by the Japanese sire sensation.

Vivlos becomes the 29th top-flight winner for her sire Deep Impact, who supplied the likes of Gentildonna, who landed the Dubai Sheema Classic on this card in 2014.

The 15-year-old son of Sunday Silence is standing his tenth season at Shadai Stallion Station, at a fee of ¥30 million (£214,000 / €252,000).

Sweet success for Biscuits

Mind Your Biscuits added a second top-flight success to his CV as the four-year-old son of Posse ran out an authoritative winner of the Dubai Golden Shaheen under Joel Rosario for US-based trainer Chad Summers.

The chestnut colt broke his Grade 1 duck when landing the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita in late-December while still under the care of Robert N Falcone Jr.

Mind Your Biscuits, bought by Machmer Hall for $47,000 when going through the ring at the 2014 Keeneland January Sale, is the third foal out of the Toccet mare Jazzmane, an unraced half-sister to Canadian champion three-year-old filly Kimchi.

Posse, a 17-year-old son of Silver Deputy, began his stallion career at Vinery Kentucky in 2004 and most recently stood the 2016 northern hemisphere season at Rockridge Stud in New York, where he stood at a fee of $5,000.

Posse also shuttled to the southern hemisphere to Haras Rapetti in Uruguay, and in late-2016 a deal was reached which will see him remain in the southern hemisphere on a permanent basis.

Posse was himself a high-class dirt performer, and has also the sired the likes of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb’s Posse and three-time Grade 1 winner Kodiak Kowboy.
