Danedream half-brother yet another Classic hope for Galileo

Aidan O'Brien has uncovered another Classic prospect by Galileo in the shape of Venice Beach, who notched a straightforward victory in the Group 3 Chester Vase on Thursday.

O'Brien also fielded the second and third home in the race – Wings Of Eagles, a son of Pour Moi and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches third Ysoldina, and The Anvil, a Galileo half-brother to Brownstown Stakes winner Glowing.

The potential Derby battalions from Ballydoyle also include 2,000 Guineas hero Churchill, Sunday's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial one-two-three Douglas Macarthur, Yucatan and Capri and unexposed maiden winners Cliffs Of Moher and Sir John Lavery, who will advertise their claims in the Dee Stakes and Lingfield Derby Trial this week. All those colts are by Coolmore phenomenon Galileo.

Venice Beach, who had won a Tipperary maiden last month, made it a landmark 400 black-type horses supplied by Galileo. He is the sire's 155th Pattern scorer.

Coolmore entity Orpendale, Chelston and Wynatt bred Venice Beach out of the unraced Danehill mare Danedrop, a maternal granddaughter of Prix Royal Oak winner Lady Berry.

Danedrop has already produced one outstanding talent at paddocks – Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes heroine Danedream, who was bred in Germany by Gestut Brummerhof.

Unfortunately for Brummerhof, they sold Danedrop to Tony Clout at Arqana for just €17,000 after the birth of Danedream. The lucky purchasers must have landed a big profit when Coolmore came looking to buy the mare privately after the emergence of her star daughter.

Danedrop has produced five winners in total, also including the Listed-placed Debutante to Gold Away, and she has a two-year-old filly by Galileo called Broadway, no yearling and was covered by Venice Beach's sire again last year.

Lady Berry produced three Group 1 winners at stud – Le Nain Jaune (Grand Prix de Paris), Indian Rose (Prix Vermeille) and Vert Amande (Prix Ganay). Besides Danedream, she features as the ancestress of other Group/Grade 1 winners Abbey Marie, Absolutely, Falco, Groom Dancer, Kinshasa No Kiseki, Left Hand and Plumania, as well as 1,000 Guineas third Moth and this year's Prix du Jockey Club hopeful Soleil Marin.

With that record, Lady Berry can safely be given that elusive and semantically baffling description of blue hen.
