China Horse Club buy into California Chrome

The China Horse Club has bought a share in seven-time Group/Grade 1 winner California Chrome.

Frank Taylor, vice-president of boarding operations for Taylor Made Farm, confirmed the deal on Friday.

Last year, the Kentucky operation along with the five-year-old's majority owner and co-breeder Perry Martin bought Steve and Carolyn Coburn's share in the son of Lucky Pulpit.

Upon his retirement, California Chrome will stand at Taylor Made and the farm has retained 11 shares in the horse with 15-20 other shareholders coming on board, including the China Horse Club.

Out of the Love The Chase mare Not For Love, California Chrome won two legs of the Triple Crown in 2014 - the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes - and has been unbeaten in six races during 2016.

He was last seen winning the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita at the start of this month and is preparing for a tilt at next month's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Classic.

Taylor said: "We're just adding one partner at a time and our criteria is, we want good partners who have good mares who will really support the horse."
