Three years after Ivawood landed the Group 2 Qatar Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in impressive fashion, another colt by Tally-Ho Stud resident Zebedee showed himself to be a crack juvenile with a game success in this year's race at Goodwood on Thursday.

The Brian Meehan-trained Barraquero was following up on his maiden victory at Chepstow last month, when he had demolished the opposition by six lengths.

The well-fancied pair of Nebo and Cardsharp mounted challenges a furlong from home but it was not to be as Barraquero found plenty to win by one and a quarter lengths.

He was bred by Helen Smith and Sally Mullen out of the winning Oasis Dream mare Chica Whopa. Of the dam's four runners to date, he has firmly become her leading performer.

Chica Wopa is in turn out of the Polar Falcon mare Just Ice, a 6f Listed winner at two in France, and is a half-sister to Jezebel, also the winner of a Listed 6f juvenile contest in Italy and the dam of Listed winner Ancient Goddess.

Barraquero took two turns through the sales ring before hitting the racetrack, the first being when offered by Cloneymore Farm at the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2015, when he was bought by Jeremy Mactaggart for €40,000.

Re-offered at last year's Goffs Premier Yearling Sale by Wells Stud, Sam Sangster parted with just £30,000 to secure him.

With a first black-type victory, Barraquero becomes the fourth stakes winner for Zebedee alongside Ivawood, Magical Memory and Dee Dee D'Or.

If the colt goes on to contest the Prix Morny as Meehan has suggested, he could provide Zebedee with a first top level win for the Tally-Ho Stud stallion.

Glorious Goodwood has been a happy hunting ground for Zebedee. Not only as he now sired two winners of the Richmond Stakes, but one of his own finest hours on the track came when he landed the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at the meeting in 2010.
