Astern to join Medaglia D'Oro on the roster at Jonabell Farm
Group 1 winner will reverse shuttle and stand at a fee of $15,000
Medaglia D'Oro will be joined by his Group 1-winning son Astern at Darley's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for the 2018 breeding season.
Astern is currently standing his first southern hemisphere season under the Darley banner at Kelvinside Farm in Australia.
Campaigned in the Godolphin blue, Astern won his first two starts as a juvenile including the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes. While a wide draw scuppered his chances in the Golden Slipper Stakes, he put that behind him when his second run in a top-level contest saw him
win the Golden Rose Stakes in September last year.
Astern is not the first son of Medaglia D'Oro to reverse shuttle to the US as Golden Slipper hero Vancouver made the trip over from Coolmore's Hunter Valley base to Ashford for this year's breeding season.
Darren Fox, Darley’s Sales Manager in America, said: "I just returned from seeing Astern in Australia, and I was blown away by his tremendous physique. I couldn't be more excited to get him to Kentucky. Medaglia D’Oro has been such an important stallion for us in both hemispheres, and as his best son, Astern has all the credentials to follow in his father's footsteps.”
With Alizee, Astern's half-sister winning, the Group 1 Flight Stakes in taking fashion last week, his pedigree has received a timely update ahead of his trip to Kentucky.
He will cover a limited book of 120 mares at Jonabell at a fee of $15,000.
