Al Boum Photo gives Big Buck's brother his first Grade 1 winner
Buck's Boum stands at Haras d'Enki in France
Al Boum Photo made amends for his exit in the RSA Chase at Cheltenham last month when he beat Shattered Love to win the Ryanair Gold Cup Novice Chase at Fairyhouse on Sunday and in the process became the first Grade 1 winner for his sire Buck's Boum.
He showed no ill-effects from his heavy fall behind Presenting Percy and was travelling handily under David Mullins as the field swung for home. Grade 1 heroine Shattered Love laid down her marker but it was the Willie Mullins-trained Al Boum Photo who dug deep to win by a length.
It was back-to-back successes for Al Boum Photo at Fairyhouse's Easter meeting having struck in the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle, running out a four-length winner over Stand Up And Fight.
Emmanuel Clayeux and Jacky Rauch bred the six-year-old out of the unraced Dom Alco mare Al Gane who has also produced a sister to Al Boum Photo in the shape of the winning Diteou. The further family includes the siblings Al Tip and Al Co with the latter's biggest victory coming when taking out the 2014 Scottish Grand National.
Clayeux handled the early career of Al Boum Photo, a first-crop son of Buck's Boum, sending him out in a conditions hurdle at Moulins only to fall three from home when in contention. After that first start with Clayeux, he was soon transferred to the ranks of Closutton.
A winning three-year-old hurdler who also finished runner-up in the Grade 1 Prix Cambaceres for Rene-Eloi Lecomte, Buck's Boum boasts a classy pedigree as he is a brother to ten-time Grade 1 hero Big Buck's.
The 13-year-old son of Cadoudal was retired to Haras D'Enki for the 2011 breeding season and has had his fee fixed at the operation at €3,000 for the past three years. His other winners include Duc Des Genievres, Favorito Buck's and Coup De Pinceau.
