On this day six years ago, Frankel was an unknown juvenile, still a month away from making his racecourse debut.

Today we find that he is the sire of eight individual runners in Europe from his first crop, seven of whom have won, six having scored first time out. The one non-winner was placed second on his only start to date.

That isn’t the way most horses kick off in their second career. In fact, it’s exceptional, probably without parallel. But what should we make of it? Does it mean he is going to become the superstar sire we want him to be, a horse as dominant at stud as he was at the races?
