Shade Oak Stud has announced that the St Leger and Great Voltigeur Stakes winner Logician is off to a "great start" to his stud career, with ten mares already scanned in foal and a further 20 awaiting pregnancy checks.

Among those tested in foal are Batoutahell, a half-sister to five-time Grade 1 winner Sizing John and Grade 2 winner Anythingforlove; 143-rated hurdler Midnight Jazz, who was placed six times in Grade 2 and Listed hurdles; the Listed hurdles winner Midnights' Gift; and Decision Made, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Prince Of Scars.

Recently covered and due to be scanned shortly are the Group 1 Preis von Europa and Diana-Trial winner Baila Me, and Fallen From Grace, a half-sister to the Coronation Stakes winner Fallen For You, who has produced multiple Group 2 and Group 3 winner Glorious Journey.

Stud owner Peter Hockenhull said: “After being delighted with the fantastic reception given to Logician by breeders, with far more mares booked to him than we have ever previously had for a new stallion at this stage of the stud season, I am even more delighted with the great start Logician has made to his new career.

"He covers mares with confidence and enthusiasm, and, even more importantly, is getting most in foal first time.

“When we bought the horse, his trainer John Gosden told us he had ‘a great mind’ – and as a stallion master I’m pleased to say it’s not the only part of him that’s great!"

He added: "In order to manage his book, we put a strict limit on the number of external mares we would cover, and I am confident we will be reaching this number of bookings far earlier than I expected.”
