Sizing John's half-sister Anythingforlove upholds family honour at Uttoxeter
Four-year-old off the mark on bumper debut
Despite the twist of 2017 Gold Cup hero Sizing John coming down on his belated comeback, there was a brighter spot for the family when his half-sister Anythingforlove made a winning debut at Uttoxeter.
Bred by TBA board member Bryan Mayoh, Sizing John was in the process of making a pleasing reappearance following more than two years off the track, crumpling on landing over the third-lastin the Bet With Tote At Punchestown Hurdle but seeming to gallop away safely.
Mayoh has had two other winners out of broodmare La Perrotine, with Scholastica striking four times in bumpers and hurdles for Charlie Longsdon and Tom Symonds, and Deadringerforlove getting off the mark over hurdles in March.
Like the latter, Anythingforlove is by the late Shade Oak Stud stallion Black Sam Bellamy and although there seemed to be no wild expectations from connections, Jamie Snowden's 10-1 chance seemed to know enough about the job in the Abacus Decorators EBF Mares' Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race.
She hit the front with about three furlongs remaining and maintained the pace to the line under Page Fuller to beat fellow newcomer La Reine Poutine, a half-sister to the ill-fated Albert Bartlett winner Brindisi Breeze, by two lengths. Point winner and warm favourite Forthegreatergood was a further eight lengths away.
"She came over from Ireland a couple of months ago and had done a lot of schooling," Fuller told Sky Sports Racing.
"She's related to a stayer and Jamie had done a very good job getting her tuned up."
