Dual Grade 1 winner Newspaperofrecord is a black-type producer as her first foal Giselle ran out a nine-length winner of Lingfield's Listed Oaks Trial at Lingfield for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.

The three-year-old Frankel filly was bred by Coolmore and Peter Brant's White Birch Farm and races for the Coolmore partners, Westerberg and Brant with Saturday's successful seasonal reappearance the second win of her career.

Second on debut behind runaway Chesham winner and stable companion Bedtime Story, Giselle didn't race again until October when she got off the mark in a Curragh maiden. She quickly reappeared in the Group 3 Staffordstown Stud Fillies' Stakes in which she was fourth past-the-post but promoted to third following a stewards' enquiry.

Speaking at Naas, O'Brien reported that Moore was happy with Giselle who was a decisive winner of the three-runner race despite taking a keen hold early on.

"She is going to improve a lot for that. It will be interesting how she develops and Ryan [Moore] said she had two blows in the straight, which is a lot and she will improve. It's possible that she will go to Epsom," he added.

The bay has six upcoming Group 1 entries and is now one of five Ballydoyle fillies quoted under 20-1 for the Oaks at Epsom on June 2.

Giselle's dam Newspaperofrecord is one of 24 individual winners at the highest level by Ballylinch Stud's brilliant stallion Lope De Vega. The nine-year-old, who was bred by Times Of Wigan and sold to Mike Ryan on behalf of Klaravich Stables for 200,000gns at Book 2, triumphed in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf and added a second elite-level triumph to her CV at four when she landed the Just A Game Stakes at Belmont.

Trained by Chad Brown, she won five of her ten starts and was only once out of the first three. Newspaperofrecord was also third in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes.

She was acquired by Coolmore and Brant and has produced three Frankel offspring in a row: her two-year-old colt has been named Benvenuto Cellini, while she also has a yearling filly by Juddmonte's outstanding son of Galileo.

Newspaperofrecord is a half-sister to Classical Times by Lawman, winner of the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes, who was was placed three times at that level and once in a Group 3 when third in Newcastle's Chipchase Stakes.

The pair are two of the five winners from seven runners out of the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes scorer and Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up Sunday Times, who was bred by Allan Belshaw.

Now 16, the Holy Roman Emperor mare is also part of the Coolmore fold and her first foal bred by them is the three-year-old Intensify, a full-sister to Newspaperofrecord, while her second is a yearling colt by Camelot.

Sunday Times is a half-sister to Question Times by Shamardal, the Listed-placed dam of Irish Derby winner and young Haras da la Tuilerie sire Latrobe and his Camelot full-sister, the Listed winner and Oaks and Irish Oaks-placed Pink Dogwood. They are also half-siblings to Diamond Fields, a Group 3-winning daughter of Fastnet Rock and dam of Group 3 winner Aikhal.

Puppet masters Stay True in Derby Trial

Frankel's sire Galileo could have a Classic contender in his final crop with Stay True running a fine race behind fellow Ballydoyle runner Puppet Master in the Derby Trial at the Surrey course.

Making only his second competitive appearance, the son of dual stakes-placed winner Bounce only made his debut at Leopardstown a month ago but showed guts and determination to push Puppet Master on the way to the line.

The winner is by Camelot and another example of Dark Angel's growing influence as a broodmare sire. Yeomanstown's kingpin, who is reigning champion stallion, is the damsire of Group 1 winners Content and Havana Grey, himself an excellent young sire.

O'Brien wasn't expecting Stay True, who carried the Westerberg silks, to show quite as professional and mature an attitude as he did.

"We are very happy with both of them, I was surprised the second horse was up to what he achieved. He was a baby when he ran at Leopardstown, he was never away before that and I was nervous going to Lingfield with him but we knew he had to go for the experience.

"Stay True ran a very good race and loved going a mile and a half. He travelled round very well and was nippy up the inside and the two of them fought to the line, they weren't stopping.

"It would be unbelievable for Galileo to have a good horse in his last crop, he has been phenomenal and this horse looks nice," O'Brien added.

Bred by Newstead Breeding out of the Bahamian Bounty mare Bounce, Stay True was the final foal by Galileo to sell at Tattersalls, making 400,000gns to McCalmont Bloodstock at the 2022 December Foal Sale. He was offered by The Castlebridge Consignment

Meanwhile, Puppet Master was bred by David and Diane Nagle of Barronstown Stud out of Realtra, a daughter of Dark Angel who was successful at Group 3 level in Ireland and Britain for Roger Varian. He is the third foal out of his dam and a half-brother to True Cyan. Also trained by Varian, the daughter of No Nay Never finished fourth in the Nell Gwyn Stakes last season.

Realtra has a two-year-old full-sister to Puppet Master named Emmelaia and her yearling is a colt from the first crop of Baaeed. The March-born bay was sold by Norelands Stud to Yeomanstown Stud for 270,000gns at Tattersalls December Foal Sale and was the third-most expensive foal by Shadwell's champion son of Sea The Stars through the ring at Park Paddocks last year.

Eden blooms at Naas

Saxon Warrior now has 14 stakes winners from his first three crops as Garden Of Eden relished the step up in trip for the Listed Naas Oaks Trial, staying on well to win for the first time since her success in a maiden at the track last August.

The victory gave Aidan O'Brien a clean-sweep of the Classic Trials run on Saturday and another tile to add into the mosaic of his middle-distance three years.

"Obviously we were running her over the wrong trip, she wanted to go further. Saxon Warrior is doing very well and they are middle-distance horses, Ben [Coen] said she will get a mile-and-a-half. She stays very well, has a little bit of class and loves the ground," the trainer remarked.

Bred by Mark and Stephanie Hanly out of the Kodiac mare Komedy, Garden Of Eden was second in the Listed Ingabelle Stakes at Leopardstown during Irish Champions' Festival last September.

She was sold by Mark Hanly's Grange Hill Stud to Timmy Hyde's Camas Park Stud for €160,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale and her second trip round the sales ring resulted in her purchase by Peter and Ross Doyle for €200,000 at Book 1 of the Orby sale.

Garden Of Eden is a half-sister to the Listed Ripon Two-Year-Old Trophy runner-up Internationaldream, who was also third in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes and the Rockingham and Dragon Stakes.

Their dam Komedy was a winner at three in Spain and is a full-sister to the Listed Star Stakes and Valiant Stakes winner On Her Toes, while her half-sister Jane's Memory was successful in the Listed Cecil Frail Stakes and also placed in the Prix du Bois and Sandown's Charge Sprint, both Group 3 contests. Komedy is out of Dancing Jest, an Averti half-sister to talented sprinter The Kiddykid who won the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes and Group 3 Greenlands Stakes for David Evans.

Komedy produced a yearling full-brother to Garden Of Eden and he was sold by Grange Hill Stud to Jamie McCalmont for €250,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale last year.
