A significant Frankel connection will be put to the test early on Thursday evening with the debut of his half-sister Joyeuse’s first foal.

The racing career of Joyeuse became particularly poignant as she was the final offspring of the extraordinary broodmare Kind to have appeared under Sir Henry Cecil’s banner when she made a winning debut at Lingfield in May 2013.

She ran for Sir Henry’s widow Lady Jane when third in the Albany at Royal Ascot and she went on to win two Listed races and achieve a handful of Group 3 placings.

Joyeuse, by Oasis Dream, was more sharply bred than Frankel and other siblings Noble Mission and Bullet Train. Even her lower-achieving full-brother Morpheus and the Galileo-sired Proconsul have such desirable genes that they have also earned a place at stud.

Now eight, she makes her broodmare introduction with three-year-old Jubiloso, a product of her visit to Darley’s leading light Shamardal. A filly with Sir Michael Stoute, Jubiloso is pitched against a handful of interesting rivals over six furlongs in the Bet toteexacta At totesport.com Maiden Stakes, with Ryan Moore booked. Joyeuse, like Kind herself, was subsequently sent to be covered by the mighty Galileo and latterly by Dark Angel.

There will be easier introductions around than this particular event, the Bet toteexacta At totesport.com Maiden Stakes.

Another Shamardal, Saeed Bin Suroor’s Ice Cave, has a fine pedigree himself. He is the second foal of La Collina, winner of both the Phoenix and Matron Stakes during a stellar career with Tracy Collins. Produced by La Collina’s owners Joerg and Diana Vasicek, Ice Cave was bought for 375,000gns by John Ferguson at the Tattersalls December foal sale. Her first foal, Dubawi’s Piccola Collina, was bought for 625,000gns by Godolphin but did not achieve much on the track.

Hero Hero, meanwhile, a son of No Nay Never and a €325,000 Goffs Orby purchase for the in-form King Power operation, has form in the book following a narrow debut second at Doncaster last back-end.
