Fasig-Tipton has 'highest concentration of quality breeding stock in the world'
Sunday's sale takes place in Lexington and contains a plethora of star females
Breeders' Cup weekend is capped by the Fasig-Tipton November Sale on Sunday, just across the city in Lexington from where the champions will have been crowned.
Even a quick spin down the entries - 299 were originally catalogued, before supplementaries stretched towards 320 - reveals a number of big names, with Bellafina, Campanelle, Gamine, Going Global, Lady Hollywood, Pizza Bianca, Secret Oath and Shedaresthedevil among those due to sell.
Shedaresthedevil was one of the star turns at the 2021 edition of the sale, when topping the racing and broodmare prospects on offer at $5,000,000 to Whisper Hill Farm, Flurry Racing and Qatar Racing.
Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath, meanwhile, could give herself a monumental late update as she is set to contest the Breeders' Cup Distaff on the eve of the auction.
So too is is the Clement L Hirsch Stakes winner Blue Stripe and Awake At Midnyte, Doug O'Neill and Paul Reddam's smart Nyquist filly, who both have the option to come under the hammer.
The Alice Haynes-trained Lady Hollywood has already been in action at Keeneland, finishing a fair fifth behind Mischief Magic in Friday's Juvenile Turf Sprint.
The daughter of Havana Grey was unearthed by Robson Aguiar for €25,000 at the Goffs Sportsman's Sale before she joined the Amo Racing umbrella and claimed Listed and Group 3 prizes.
Billed as the 'Night of the Stars', last year's auction established a new record aggregate, with sales adding up to more than $100,000,000 in the single session for the first time in the event's history, including 26 fillies and mares who sold for $1,000,000 or more.
Grade 1 producer Magical World, who was in foal to multiple leading sire Into Mischief, topped the 2021 auction when sold for $5,200,000 to Whisper Hill Farm and Three Chimneys Farm.
The likes of Gamine, a decorated former Filly & Mare Sprint winner who traded for seven figures at the Midlantic Sale before she raced and is being offered in foal to Quality Road by Hill 'n' Dale, have clear potential to make waves.
Another Kentucky Oaks winner, Cathryn Sophia, has already traded for $2,300,000 and arrives again in foal to the red-hot Gun Runner, while Fastnet Rock filly Pizza Bianca has been a flagbearer for her celebrity owner-breeder Bobby Flay in pipping Malavath in last year's Juvenile Fillies Turf.
“The Fasig-Tipton November Sale annually offers the highest concentration of quality breeding stock in the world, and this year’s catalogue more than lives up to that billing,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning, speaking upon the release of the catalogue.
“We have 56 Graded stakes winners or producers catalogued, 23 of which are Grade 1. Included among these are Eclipse champions, international champions, Breeders’ Cup winners, a dual Royal Ascot winner and three Kentucky Oaks winners.”
The action begins with 180 selected weanlings – the largest group of weanlings offered in the sale’s recent history – before transitioning into racing/broodmare prospects and broodmares as evening falls. The sale is due to start at 1pm local time.
“This catalogue is as deep in quality as it is internationally diverse,” added Browning. “Nearly 70 per cent of the racing and broodmare offerings are either a black-type winner or the dam of a black-type winner, providing buying opportunities at a variety of price levels.”
The catalogue can be viewed , while online and telephone bidding is available.
