Design and default sees inbreeding to Danehill come to the fore

Nine elite winners from the last year have been inbred to the son of Danzig

A 450-strong catalogue comprising some of the best yearlings to come on to the Australian market awaits buyers at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in early April.

As ever, there is representation from a wide array of Australia’s major stallions alongside a smattering of leading European and Japanese names. Many of those catalogued are naturally extremely well connected.

However, a total of 93 youngsters are also inbred within four generations to Danehill. This isn’t a rare phenomenon across the thoroughbred population. Such was Danehill’s influence on the breed and subsequent popularity, particularly in Australia, inbreeding to the great horse was always likely to become a well-trodden avenue.
