Markaz, a dual Group-winning son of Dark Angel and recently responsible for Prix d'Arenberg scorer Corazon, has relocated from Derrinstown Stud to Allevamento Renaccino in Siena, Italy, for 2022.

A full-brother to champion sprinter Mecca's Angel, Markaz will stand at a farm which is managed by veteran horseman Marco Lucarelli, and which has previously housed 2,000 Guineas winner Mystiko.

The nine-year-old has sired the winners of 49 races and over €500,000 in prize-money since his retirement to stud in 2017.

He was supplied with his first Group winner when the George Boughey-trained Corazon landed the Group 3 Prix d'Arenberg at Longchamp in September. The Nick Bradley-owned filly was also a close-up third in the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster the same month.

Markaz's other notable runners so far include the Listed-placed Markaz Paname, four-time winner Miramichi, and Snash, who has twice been tried in Listed and Group-race company.

Markaz shelved his maiden tag on his third start at two for Barry Hills and ended his juvenile campaign with a second in the Tattersalls Stakes. He was a Group 3 winner at three and four for Hills and Owen Barrows, as well as twice finishing second in Group 2 company.

Derrinstown Stud's Enda Stanley said: "He is a fantastic horse to work with. He's very straightforward with a beautiful temperament, a professional in every way.

"We are sure he will be very popular at his new home, especially considering the recent black-type winner and Listed performer he's got."

Markaz will stand for a fee of €3,000.
