Decision made - top dual-purpose performer Jason The Militant to be sold online
Owner-breeder Peter Michael opts to offer him through ThoroughBid Christmas Sale
Jason The Militant, rated 154 over hurdles and trained by Henry de Bromhead, will go under ThoroughBid’s online hammer in the Christmas Sale at 9am on Friday, December 16.
The eight-year-old San Frontieres gelding is a Grade 2 winner over hurdles, Listed winner on the Flat and finished third in in the 2020 Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle, amassing £96,000 for his owner-breeder, Peter Michael, in the process.
Michael chatted to Racing Post bloodstock's Tom Peacock last month, when he admitted he was hoping to find a private buyer.
In addition to De Bromhead’s top-class performer, the Christmas Sale has attracted entries from fellow Irish powerhouses Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins, as well as up-and-coming UK trainer Oliver Signy.
Signy’s entry, Marshella, was a comfortable winner of her only career start in Fakenham’s Junior 'National Hunt' Fillies' Hurdle, and is out of a half-sister to 2012 Group 1 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Cinders And Ashes.
Mi Lighthouse, one of two horses entered by Mullins, heads to next Friday’s sale with three wins and a Graded place under her belt, while Elliott offers The Creadan Rogue, a son of Scorpion, who is the winner of three Irish point-to-points, with his most recent coming last month at Damma House.
Alongside the horses-in-training, the ThoroughBid Christmas Sale also offers youngstock and breeding stock.
Willie Carson has consigned a yearling filly by Bated Breath out of Hazy Dancer, who is a half-sister to useful performers on both the Flat and over hurdles, including the Alan King-trained Burguillos and Dan Skelton-trained Stylish Dancer.
Black Kalarosa, a full-sister to seven-time dual-purpose winner Black Kalanasi, and half-sister to a further two winners, adds interest from a broodmare perspective.
ThoroughBid CEO James Richardson said: “Off the back of a successful Autumn Sale, which saw Jon Snow sold for £50,000 and a clearance rate of 70 per cent, it’s great to have such a good number of horses consigned by some of the industry’s top players.
“Jason The Militant is an excellent horse to have in our catalogue, following the likes of Belfast Banter, Maskada, Itchy Feet and most recently Jon Snow. True dual-purpose horses are hard to come by, and this is a stellar example of a proper one."
He added: "Willie Carson has a very good eye for talent, and we couldn’t be happier to list a yearling filly for him. Respected and trustworthy consigners are so important in this game, and it’s marvellous that they continue to use our platform to sell their stock.”
Bidding runs from 9am to 12pm next Friday. The catalogue can be viewed here.
