Coolmore renew sponsorship of German 2,000 Guineas - and this time it's City Of Troy in the race title

Coolmore are to continue their sponsorship of the first German Classic of the year, with the Group 2 Coolmore City Of Troy German 2,000 Guineas to be run at Cologne on Sunday, May 18.
“German breeders have been terrific supporters of Coolmore over the years and we’ve been long-time race sponsors in the country,” said Coolmore’s Joe Hernon.
“We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the Group 2 Coolmore City Of Troy German 2,000 Guineas again.”
City Of Troy was named European champion juvenile in 2023 after winning all three starts that year for Coolmore and Aidan O’Brien, culminating in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.
He trained on to win the Derby, Coral-Eclipse and Juddmonte International last year, a campaign which ended with him being named joint-world champion with Laurel River.
The best son of sire sensation Justify, City Of Troy is out of the Group 1-winning juvenile Together Forever, a sister to Oaks heroine Forever Together. He is standing his debut covering season at Coolmore in County Tipperary for €75,000.
Philipp Hein, general manager of the Cologne Racing Club, said: “It’s once again a great honour for us to have a partnership with the world-famous Coolmore Stud in order to continue to strengthen the German 2,000 Guineas nationally and internationally.
“We’d like to thank all supporters who were active in the implementation and we're looking forward to a highlight in the Cologne racing calendar.”
Nominations for the race, run last year as the Coolmore St Mark's Basilica German 2,000 Guineas and won by Devil's Point, can be made until Tuesday week, February 25.
