Cokoriko's half-brother Chanducoq to stand at stud in France

Chanducoq, whose half-brother Cokoriko broke the record for number of mares covered in France this year, will commence his stallion career at Haras de la Barbottiere next year at a €1,400 fee.

The Listed-placed hurdler, a winner over 1m2f at Saint-Cloud as a two-year-old, was raced by his trainer Jean-Paul Gallorini and boasts an ironclad jumps pedigree.

The five-year-old Chanducoq is by Voix Du Nord, who sired a plethora of talented jumpers including Vibrato Valtat and Vroum Vroum Mag.

He is a brother to Ceasar's Palace, a three-time Graded hurdle winner at Auteuil, and half-brother to Cokoriko, a Listed hurdle winner now standing at Haras de Cercy.

That trio are out of Cardounika, a daughter of influential jumps sire Nikos, whose progeny includes Cenkos and dual Champion Chase hero Master Minded.

Nikos is also the damsire of Apple's Jade, a seven-time Grade 1-winning hurdler who was a close third to Benie Des Dieux in this year's Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival.

The latter, who is unbeaten in five starts for Willie Mullins, shares her granddam, the Cadoudal mare Cardoudalle, with Chanducoq.

"Chanducoq is from one of the best French jumps families," Gallorini told Jour de Galop.

"His half-brother Cokoriko has made an impressive start at stud. For a jumps-bred horse to win a Class B race on the Flat at two is extremely rare and demonstrates his class. For those who want to produce Flat runners, whether AQPS or thoroughbred, it's a real plus."

Gallorini has helped carve out stallion careers for Cokoriko and No Risk At All, whose son Gumball has competed in Grade 1 company and was a six-length winner on his most recent start.
