Champion Stakes winner Sealiway to stand at new stud farm in Normandy

Dual Group 1 winner Sealiway has been retired to stand at the newly created Haras de Beaumont outside Deauville.

The Champion Stakes and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner from the second crop of Galiway will be the focal point of co-owners the Chehboub family's new breeding venture, which will be centred around the 100-hectare farm adjacent to the world renowned Haras du Quesnay.

Mathieu and Emilie Alex will run the new stud for Pauline Chehboub and her family, who are the breeders of Grade 1 Arlington Million winner Spirit One, and will move their broodmares to join Sealiway at the Normandy farm, where other stallions could stand in the future.

"Beaumont is a major project, a story of people and encounters," said Pauline Chehboub. "We have called on Mathieu and Emilie Alex who, thanks to their expertise, will support us in doing everything possible to try to achieve our objectives."

Mathieu Alex emphasised the strength of the support that Sealiway's owners will be employing to launch his stallion career, saying: "The Chehboub family and Guy Pariente are determined to do everything they can to give Sealiway the best possible start at stud.

"This is very positive for the French breeding industry. We will do our utmost to involve breeders in this exciting project and thus share the success of such an adventure."

Sealiway was bred by Guy Pariente Holdings, which retained a share in the four-year-old grandson of Galileo and will remain involved in his stud career.

In addition to his Group 1 triumphs at two and three, Sealiway was second to last season's champion three-year-old St Mark's Basilica in the Prix du Jockey Club and third behind State Of Rest in the Group 1 Prix Ganay earlier this year.

A winner of five of his 18 starts, also including the Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles at Vichy, Sealiway is the highest-rated horse from four crops of racing age by the Listed winner and Group-3-placed Galiway, who is the sire of eight black-type winners to date.

Sealiway was sold through Pariente's Haras de Colleville, where both his sire and broodmare sire stand, for €62,000 at Arqana's August Yearling sale to Paul Nataf.

The colt is the best performer from five runners so far out of the Listed Prix Herod winner Kensea, a daughter of emerging broodmare sire Kendargent.

The grey son of Kendor was the first French-based stallion to sire 100 winners in a season and is now the broodmare sire of seven individual Group winners, headed by Sealiway.

A fee for Sealiway will be announced in due course.
