Breeding right to Havana Grey sells for 115,000gns on Tattersalls Online
Listed-placed winner Willesee makes 90,000gns to Mountarmstrong Stud
A breeding right to this year's leading first-season sire Havana Grey topped the Tattersalls Online Sale on Thursday when selling to Badgers Bloodstock for 115,000gns.
Whitsbury Manor Stud's Group 1-winning son of Havana Grey has been a revelation this term, with 13 stakes performers among his numerous winners so far.
They include three individual Group winners in Cornwallis Stakes scorer Rumstar, Prix Eclipse victor Eddie's Boy and Prix d'Arenberg winner Lady Hollywood, as well as two Listed winners in Cuban Mistress and Shouldvebeenaring, while Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes second Marylandsea has also done her sire proud.
Tom Pritchard-Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock said: "Havana Grey is a very exciting young stallion who continues to exceed expectations. He's the sire of 13 stakes performers from 83 runners which is remarkable; 16 per cent stakes performing two-year-olds to runners off a stallion fee of £8,000."
It was recently announced that Havana Grey will stand the 2023 breeding season at an increased fee of £18,500, up from £6,000 this year.
Pritchard-Gordon added: "Whitsbury Manor Stud have been very conservative with their pricing this year, and I predict in a couple of years he will look remarkably cheap.”
Mountarmstrong Stud went to a final bid of 90,000gns to secure Jessica Harrington's useful Willesee, a winning and stakes-placed daughter of Gleneagles.
Offered by Harrington's Commonstown Stables, the three-year-old was a two-and-a-half-length winner on her debut at two and finished third in the Listed Yeats Stakes at Navan this term behind subsequent Irish Oaks third Cairde Go Deo.
Willesee has a fine Juddmonte pedigree, being out of the Dansili mare Sandstone, a winning half-sister to Coventry Stakes winner and young Coolmore sire Calyx.
Sandstone, who sold to Anthony Penfold for 155,000gns from Juddmonte at the 2016 Tattersalls December Mares Sale, is out of French Group 3 scorer Helleborine, a full-sister to Sprint Cup scorer African Rose and to the dam of champion juvenile and this year's Irish 2,000 Guineas scorer Native Trail.
Consensus De Vega was next best when selling to Armando Duarte for 24,000gns. The winning daughter of Lope De Vega is out of an Oasis Dream three-parts sister to Listed winner Apache Spirit and from the family of Prix Vermeille and Prix Ganay winner Aquarelliste.
Overall, 37 lots sold for turnover of 446,500gns, an average of 11,878gns and median of 5,000gns.
The next Tattersalls Online sale will take place from December 14-15.
