Coolmore stumped up an eye-watering 3,000,000 guineas for the George Boughey-trained Believing and she repaid their faith handsomely in the Group 1 win in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan.

The five-year-old had finished in the first four in Group 1s on six previous occasions, but finally broke through at the top level and provided Tally-Ho Stud’s Mehmas with his eighth individual top-level winner in the process.

Ridden by William Buick on her first start since October, Believing found plenty for pressure inside the final furlong to gamely deny Win Carnelian by three-quarters of a length with a further short-head back to old rival Regional in third.

Having been raced by Highclere throughout her career, Believing was purchased by Coolmore’s MV Magnier at last year's Tattersalls December Mares Sale and the decision to keep her in training has proved inspired one.

“It's a huge privilege to have her back in the barn as a five-year-old,” Boughey’s assistant trainer Henry Morshead said.

“Obviously she cost a lot of money at the [Tattersalls December] mares sale at the end of last year and it is a real honour to have the Coolmore silks representing her on Dubai World Cup night. To put in a performance like that is truly special.

“It's no secret, she has her quirks and she got withdrawn at the start in Del Mar last time at the Breeders' Cup so there's a little bit of apprehension that comes with bringing a filly like her to such a big night like this. She has to deal with a lot, there's a lot of lights, a lot of sounds, a lot of people, and thankful she managed to cope with it super.

“We were drawn around some pace even if not ideal in one, but she followed them up and god she's tough. She really sticks her head down and that's really her key attribute, she's tough to the line and a real star.”

Believing is out of Misfortunate, an unraced daughter of Kodiac, who is a close relation to Miss Sally, a dual Group 3-winning sprinter by Danetime.
