£305,000 Tattersalls Cheltenham November sale topper set for Gowran debut
Arctic Bresil is from the family of Grade 2-winning chaser Wee Robbie
Arctic Bresil, last year's Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale top lot when selling to Gerry Hogan for £305,000, will make his rules debut for Henry de Bromhead in the bumper at Gowran Park on Saturday.
The son of Blue Bresil was bred by Goldford Stud and sold to Monbeg Stables for €68,000 as a store from the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale in August 2020.
Placed a three-quarter length second on his second point-to-point start in a competitive maiden at Tattersalls Farm last November - following an unlucky unseat on his debut just a few days before - Arctic Bresil then topped the Tattersalls Cheltenham auction when Hogan saw off the rival bids of Aiden Murphy and Willy Twiston-Davies.
The agent said following his purchase: "He's a very impressive-looking horse with size and scope. He was very unlucky the first day and ran a cracker the second day, so he's one you'd be excited about.
"It was a toss of a coin between him and the winner really but this horse just really filled the eye. He's a horse with loads to come."
That winner, Present Soldier, went the way of Aidan O'Ryan and Gordon Elliott for £300,000.
The five-year-old Arctic Bresil is the second foal out of the winning bumper and hurdler performer Arctic Actress, a King's Theatre half-sister to Grade 2-winning and Grade 1-placed novice chaser Wee Robbie and Topham Chase third Isn't That Lucky.
Arctic Bresil is in turn a half-brother to two winners in Parody and Arctic Road, the former a dual winner over hurdles for Paul Nicholls.
The gelding is set to face five rivals in the 2m2f contest (5.25), including Monbeg Park, a winning pointer for Donnchadh Doyle and a son of Walk In The Park from the family of the high-class chaser Hidden Cyclone, and Not A Light, a Leading Light half-brother to three winners including high-class handicap chaser Heathfield.
The opening 2m maiden hurdle (1.25) on the card will see trainer Paul Nolan introduce a half-brother to last season's Pertemps Final winner Mrs Milner in Backintheroom.
The five-year-old son of Shantou is the second foal out of the Oscar mare Thegirlonthehill - a half-sister to this season's winning novice hurdler and Cheltenham Festival hope Ramillies among three winners.
Backintheroom's own half-sister, who is also trained by Nolan, holds an entry in the Mares' Hurdle at Prestbury Park, having also won a Listed mares' contest at Limerick this term.
