€1.7m sale-topper Diamond Necklace continues the good run of form for Coolmore's St Mark's Basilica

Diamond Necklace sparkled at Leopardstown in the Listed Ingabelle Stakes to continue a glittering week for her sire St Mark's Basilica.
Last year's Arqana August sale-topper is the second stakes winner in 48 hours for the multiple Group 1-winning son of Siyouni following the victory of Aylin in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.
Trained by Aidan O'Brien for the Coolmore partners and Westerberg, MV Magnier's €1,700,000 purchase is the third black-type winner in total for St Mark's Basilica and O'Brien said elite-level assignments could now be on Diamond Necklace's agenda.
O'Brien said: "That was lovely, he [Christophe Soumillon] gave her a lovely ride. She’s a lovely filly and she’s going to stay further. We’ll have a look at the Fillies' Mile or the [Prix Marcel] Boussac with her.
“The Curragh was her first time away from home and she still won. Usually if they do that they can often be a bit different."
Bred by Ecurie des Monceaux and Skymarc Farms, Diamond Necklace is closely related to Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes winner Magic Wand (by Galileo, broodmare sire of St Mark's Basilica), who was also placed eight times at the highest level including when runner-up to Magical in the Irish Champion Stakes of 2019.
She is also a half-sister to Chicquita by Montjeu, winner of the Irish Oaks and placed in the Prix de Diane prior to selling for €6,000,000 at the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale.
Her trainer added: “She’s [Diamond Necklace] a filly that cost a lot of money, with a great pedigree, and her work was always very right. She’s by St Mark’s Basilica and he didn’t win his Group race until the Dewhurst.”
Diamond Necklace's yearling half-sister by Night Of Thunder made a sale record €3,000,000 at Arqana last month where she was purchased by Amo Racing from Ecurie des Monceaux.
St Mark's Basilica sired his 14th winner of the season at Doncaster on Saturday where Pathein made a winning debut in the maiden for Ed Walker. Bred by Lady Bamford and Alice Bamford, the colt is a half-brother to Listed Dubai Dash winner Mutaraffa and was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock and Ed Dunlop for 150,000gns at Book 2 last October.
