Goffs UK has confirmed a new date for its 2020 Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale, which will now be held on September 1-2 in response to the disrupted calendar caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The one-day Silver Sale, usually held the day after the Premier Sale, will move to a later date, taking place alongside the Autumn Yearling and Horses-in-Training Sale on October 21-22.

The new 2020 date for the Premier Sale brings back to mind the days when Goffs UK traded as DBS, holding its St Leger Yearling Sales in conjunction with the Doncaster St Leger meeting in September.

The sale sold numerous Group 1 winners including Lyric Fantasy, Turtle Island, Phoenix Reach, Kyllachy, Cockney Rebel and Dutch Art.

The Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale continued the Group 1 roll of honour of its graduates last year through six-time top-flight winner Laurens and Advertise, who landed last year's Commonwealth Cup. The sale also remains a potent source of precocity, with two 2019 Royal Ascot two-year-old winners in A'Ali (Norfolk Stakes) and Daahyeh (Albany Stakes) each selling at the sale.

Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent commented: "This is an extraordinary time with challenges for us all as we strive to get our sales back up and running.

"Like all auction houses, we are faced with an ever shifting and extremely busy sale calendar in which new positions are difficult to secure. However, a September slot gives extra time, which may be vital this year especially given the profile of the typical Doncaster yearling.

"With inspections having commenced in the UK and Ireland, the new date gives our consignors surety as they look to plan their prep into the sale. The Premier Sale is no stranger to selling in September having produced numerous Group 1 winning racehorses during its many years as the St Leger Yearling Sales and we are looking forward to seeing this year's smart nominations in studs in the UK, Ireland and France over the coming weeks."
