New insurance policy extension takes care of foster mare hire
One company introduces automatic extension to mortality cover
Insurance company Markel has put in place a new extension of its mortality policy - an indemnity for the hire of a foster mare.
In the event of a loss during the foaling, Markel will, from Tuesday, participate in the lease of a foster mother with the aim of giving the foal the best possible chance of survival.
Christophe German, the managing director of Markel France, explained this new guarantee: "Our experience of the breeding world is that it is becoming ever more structured and professional.
"There are more and more people offering the foster mother services but this adds yet another additional expense for breeders. This is why it seems logical for us to offer our help to those breeders confronted with the loss of a broodmare at the moment of foaling.
"We are always looking to improve the service we offer our clients and this new indemnity should be able to help breeders faced by this difficult situation and give a better chance of survival to the foals concerned.
"This will, from Tuesday, be an automatic extension to our existing mortality coverage."
