National Defense took a starring role at Sun Stud’s open day and stallion parade as he prepares for his first shuttle campaign in Australia.

The champion two-year-old in France and winner of the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere has completed his first two seasons at the Irish National Stud, most recently for €8,000, and only arrived at Sun Stud on Monday.

A son of Invincible Spirit, National Defense has been listed at A$11,000 (£6,100/€6,700) and is expected to attract a strong book of mares at his new base close to Melbourne.

Melbourne Cup hero Fiorente was also on parade at Sun Stud
Sun Stud reported a healthy crowd of 350 at the event, despite the threat of rain, and National Defense was shown off along with nine other stallions including Melbourne Cup winner and burgeoning sire prospect Fiorente as well as leading names such as Magnus and Bel Esprit.

"A big thank you to all the breeders who attended the open day and stallion parade and we’re looking forward to a bumper year in the covering shed and sharing their success,” said Sun Stud’s senior sales and nominations manager Mark Lindsay.

"It was also great that the prize generously donated by Moonee Valley Racing Club managed to raise $1,165 for our friends at the Riding For Disabled Association of Victoria."
