Johnny Barnes joins Haras des Granges roster for 2018
Group 3 winner is from the family of Ectot and Most Improved
Group 3 winner Johnny Barnes has been secured to start his stallion career at Mathieu Daguzan-Garros's Haras des Granges near Toulouse in 2018 in a deal brokered by Richard Venn Bloodstock and Jake Warren.
The son of Acclamation was trained by John Gosden throughout his career winning four races from 21 starts. That number included victory on debut as a juvenile in August 2014 before going on to finish second in the Criterium International on his final run at two.
At three he landed the Group 3 Prix Quincey Barriere and registered his fourth and final success earlier this year when beating Burnt Sugar by a length in a 7f handicap at Goodwood.
Bred by Citadel Stud, the five-year-old is out of the Listed-winning Danehill mare Mahalia and is a half-brother to seven winners including Group 3 scorer Albisola and Bufera, the dam of Listed winner Chartreuse. He is also a half-brother to Malaspina, who in turn has produced Group 3 scorers Daban and Thikriyaat, and to Tonnara, the dam of the Group 1-winning pair Most Improved and Ectot.
Offered as part of a complete dispersal of the late Gerry Oldham's Citadel Stud at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale in 2013, he was snapped up by John Warren for €310,000.
Johnny Barnes becomes the latest son of Acclamation to join the stallion ranks for 2018 alongside Prix de la Foret hero Aclaim, who will begin his stud career at the National Stud, and has been introduced to breeders at a fee of €2,500.
