Industry figures react to Ferguson's departure from Godolphin
'John has been a pleasure to deal with down the years'
Henry Beeby, group chief executive of Goffs and Goffs UK
After Sheikh Mohammed, I suppose he's been the most identifiable and consistent face of Godolphin for as long as Godolphin has been in existence. He has often been the face in public given that Sheikh Mohammed has had so many other roles in Dubai. John has been a pleasure to deal with down the years and has been a great supporter of a number of our sales in Goffs and at Doncaster. A charming man who I'm sure will make a great fist of whatever he decides to go and do now.
Fiona Craig, bloodstock adviser to Moyglare Stud
Godolphin have done things in the business that nobody else has, sending horses to Dubai, the numbers, the properties and nobody has seen anything like that before. They've broken down a lot of barriers. John has been the main feet of that the entire time - I'm sure it's been Sheikh Mohammed's vision and he's the one to have carried it out. And from a sales point of view it's created an environment that's never been seen before.
He's a lovely man, somebody you can approach, and we sold Refuse To Bend to him all those years ago. He's been very easy to deal with, you knew exactly where you stood with him as the answer was usually yes or no. I'm sure he's not going to disappear, he's given a lot to the business and I'm sure he's still got a lot to give to it.
Peter Stanley, New England Stud
He's been around for as long as we've all been in the industry so to speak and it's very shocking when something like this happens. John is a man of huge integrity and I think will be a great loss to Godolphin.
He's an incredibly, hard-working, dedicated person who has shown integrity throughout his whole career and I think Sheikh Mohammed has been lucky to employ a man as hard-working as he is. I'm sure he will be responsible for buying many more good horses in years to come but any change is sad. He was a very highly-valued member of the racing community and I hope we continue to see lots of him; I have no doubt we will.
